How to play

Full rules and movement diagrams

Select a piece and a destination, then confirm. A permitted attempt moves the piece; a refused attempt leaves it in place. Both use your turn. You can see your opponent’s movement diagrams, but must discover your own. Capture the puck and bring it to the far row; your carrier must survive the opponent’s reply.

You may carry, leave or pass the puck using the carrier’s movement. A pass does not capture its recipient. Each side has one of each of twelve movement types. Confirmed attempts cannot be undone.

Controls

Click or tap squares. Arrow keys or physical WASD move the cursor; Enter selects a square. Escape clears the selection. Confirm with Make move. Space does not pass a turn. Tab leaves the board.

Rating and leagues

Initial Elo is 1200, with K=32. The first ten games are calibration. Only completed rated games between accounts affect Elo. Leagues: Bronze below 1000; Silver 1000–1199; Gold 1200–1399; Platinum 1400–1599; Diamond 1600 and above.

Each turn in a rated game has a 72-hour deadline; timeout is a loss. Closing the page or offering a draw does not extend the deadline.

About Confusion

Robert Abbott’s abstract game combines strategy and deduction. You know how the opposing pieces move, but learn your own through attempts. Even a refused attempt gives information, though it uses a turn.
